Some thirty people work at Lab M's 20,000 sq ft head office and manufacturing facility in Bury, Lancashire, UK, where the Technical Department offers fully integrated research, development and manufacturing services. Production capacity ranges from gram quantities of certain specialist products up to multiples of 750 Kg for bulk media. As much as 2 tonnes of raw material can be reserved for a complete production run.

Lab M's R&D group is dedicated to developing innovative products and processes for the food, industrial, clinical and waste/wastewater testing sectors. Conventional culture remains the most cost-effective and reliable way to enrich and enumerate micro-organisms in complex samples, but we are also developing DCM products that are designed for rapid methods such as ELISA and PCR. Significant new products have been introduced that exploit our patented Captivate™ Immuno Magnetic Separation (IMS) bead technology, and use our Harlequin™ chromogenic media with patented CHE substrate technology.

Lab M’s Sales and Customer Support Team work with all our customers – laboratory users as well as distributors and agents - responding quickly to enquiries and answering detailed technical questions by telephone and email.

Lab M media selectively detects E. coli O26 strain

The recent closure of Feltham Hill Nursery and Infant School in Hounslow highlighted once again the vulnerability of children to Escherichia coli. Selective media, such as Rhamnose MacConkey (VTEC O26) Agar from microbiology specialist Lab M, can help avoid potentially devastating consequences such as haemorrhagic colitis (HC) and haemolytic uraemic syndrome (HUS). By improving detection and characterisation of those pathogenic strains most often responsible for these outbreaks, the food industry can support more comprehensive health and safety monitoring.
